Dear Parents,
SPORTS DAY VOLUNTEERS
Thank you to everybody who volunteered their time during our Sports Day events last Monday. It was a lovely day and your help made the day run smoothly. The children particularly enjoyed taking part and this is only possible owing to the high level of support.
OLYMPIC AWARENESS DAY – MONDAY 28TH MAY
This Monday, the four Euxton Primary Schools are going to try to achieve something quite new in recognition of the forthcoming Olympic celebrations this summer. We are intending to work together and allow our children to spend the day with their peers across all four schools. Primrose Hill junior children will host the Year 3 children from each of our neighbour schools whilst our Year 4 children will attend Euxton St Mary’s, our Year 5 children will attend Balshaw Lane and our Year 6 children will attend Euxton CE for the day. Each class will go with their own member of staff but have the opportunity to get to meet and work with their peers from the other schools. All children will arrive at school at the usual time, but will be transported to their visiting school by coach or by walking. They will carry out a number of planned activities relating to different countries that have been chosen by each school. All infant children, you will I am sure be relieved to hear, stay with their teachers at Primrose Hill as usual and carry out similar activities linked to another country and the Olympics.
We hope that all junior children will be ready for collection at Primrose Hill at approximately 3.45 to 4pm. Year 3 children will be already at Primrose Hill, however, and will be ready for collection at approximately 3.15pm, a little later than usual. I hope you find these timings acceptable to all our parents. It is an ambitious event which I hope could be the first of many in the years to come.
The different schools will carry out activities linked to different countries:
Primrose Hill – Brazil & Dance - Year 3 children
Euxton CE – USA & Basketball/Cheerleading - Year 6 children
St Mary’s – Russia & Gymnastics - Year 4 children
Balshaw Lane – South Korea - Year 5 children
We would like to ask all children to come to school wearing their PE kits as this will really help the smooth running of the day. Children will take their packed lunches to their school and Pat, our cook, will prepare packed lunches for all those on school dinners to take with them also.
WANTED
As we are the host for all Year 3 children from the visiting schools at next Mondays’ Junior Olympic Day, we need your help in collecting items in preparation for the planned crafts. We need:- small Pringle tubs (or similar), sequins, beads and feathers. If you can help, please give them to Mrs Branston. Many thanks.
CLASS PHOTOGRAPHS
Just to remind you, full size examples of class photographs can be found hanging on the walls in the entrance through the main doors – please feel free to pop in and view them. All orders for photographs need to back in school with payment by Thursday 31st May. Any orders made after this time would have to be made direct to Tempest by parents and would incur post and packaging costs.
BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CLUB
I would like to ask all parents who require a place at the Before and/or After School Club from September to fill in the attached booking form. This is a request I make each year, but this year I am asking for this earlier than normal due to the very high demand for places. If your child already attends the Club, I would also like a return to confirm their place or changes as appropriate please. The form also asks for a deposit of £20 – please note this is only for new children to the Club, and not for existing children already attending. The new Reception Class parents received these last night, and I already know that the demand will be the highest ever. As always, I will endeavour to accommodate as many requests as possible. Thank you for your help in this matter.

OLYMPIC TORCH
As you are all probably aware, the Olympic Torch will pass through Euxton on Friday 1st June. The set route will bring the torch from Chorley past Balshaw Lane school at 7.55am and from there, down Southport Road to Eccleston. The roads in Chorley are to be closed when the torch passes Parklands, so we are assuming that the roads at the far end of Euxton will be closed during this time as well. Due to the very early time and road closures, unfortunately the school will not be organising or supervising groups. Parents are welcome to attend with their own ‘child/ren and ‘wave’ the Torch past if they wish and return to school afterwards. We would be most grateful if you could inform your child/ren’s class teacher/s in writing that this is your intention, so if you are slightly delayed back to school, your child/ren will not be marked as late for that morning only. Thank you for your help in this matter.
UNION JACK BAKE-A-THON – CAN YOU HELP WITH CAKES?
As part of the Jubilee celebrations the PTFA have asked to hold a Bake-a-thon on the last day of half-term - Friday 1st June. In order to help give the day atmosphere, the children are invited to wear red/white/blue instead of school uniform for the ‘cost’ of loose change, which will be placed on a chalk painted Union Jack on the playground. The money brought in for the flag will be donated to Derian House. Parents are also invited to bake/donate cakes for the bake-a-thon tea party. The PTFA will then set up a ‘Royal Tea Party’ after school (3-4pm) on Friday 1st June, where they will sell tea and cakes to consume on the premises, or cakes to be bought to take home to enjoy at the weekend. Any profit from this event will go into PTFA funds.
BUPA GREAT MANCHESTER RUN
A big thank you from Mrs Swinburn for all the sponsors. She has raised over £300 for Royal Preston Hospital Critical Care Unit.
Y6 CYCLING PROFICIENCY
As usual we will be offering our Year 6 children the opportunity to take part in Cycling Proficiency. The cycling module will begin this Friday 25th May and hopefully be completed on Wednesday 30th May. There will need to be 2 full days of training and children are asked to bring appropriate clothing in case of inclement weather.
HEADLICE
Please read the attached information very carefully.
DINNER MONEY
Just to remind you, as you have previously been informed, dinner money will increase from £2 per meal (£10 per week) to £2.20 per meal (£11 per week) after the half term holidays. If your child/ren wishes to change from packed lunches to school dinners, or vice-versa, please inform school in writing by the morning of Friday 1st June. Thank you.
EUXTON PARISH CHURCH BIG PICNIC LUNCH
There is to be a Big Picnic Lunch on the Vicarage lawn of Euxton Parish Church on Sunday 3rd June at 1.00pm. This is an opportunity for everyone in the village to get together and celebrate The Diamond Jubilee of our Queen. There will be competitions, a soft play area for the younger children, races for older children and a quiz for all the family. More information can be found on posters around the village, in the Euxton Parish Church magazine and on the Euxton Parish Church web-site (www.euxton-parish-church.co.uk).
PLEASE REMEMBER WE ARE STILL COLLECTING:-
* Nestle Box Tops * Batteries * Clothing, Bedding etc for the clothes bank at the rear of school
* Tesco vouchers – the last vouchers issued was Sunday 20th May. Please can you ensure that all vouchers are brought into school by Monday 28th May so that we can send the order off before the half-term holidays. Many thanks.
WALKING BUS
Just to remind you that the Walking Bus is available every day and is currently very healthily attended. Children seem to be enjoying the social life it offers each morning. A member of staff (usually Mr Shields or Miss Tallis) will arrive at Spar at approximately 8.25am and leave promptly at 8.30am for school. If you wish your child to join ‘the bus’, please inform Mr Shields.
