We were fortunate to have a world leading authority - Michael Eastwood - to be our tour guide for the day. After amazing us with his knowledge, images and artefacts from Egypt and his stories of tomb discoveries, we even managed to fit in a spot of dancing and mummification. A truly fantastic day which was enjoyed by all.

  • Stone Age Day - Shelter Building

Tue 06 Oct 2020 Miss Fowler
In quite possibly the worst weather we could have, Year 3 built shelters to survive the predators and weather of the Stone Age! We worked in teams with limited materials but lots of trees, rocks and sticks. The structures built were fantastic and the children showed excellent creativity and engineering skills. It was very muddy, very wet, but very fun! Which would you choose to live in?

As part of our Stone Age Day, year 3 enjoyed making their own Stone Age necklaces, shaping them to look like animal teeth. They also followed a recipe to make some Stone Age oat biscuits. They used ingredients that would have been available at the time and looked forward to tasting them at the end of the day.

  • Stone Age Day - fire making

Tue 06 Oct 2020 Miss Dobbs
Despite the incredibly heavy rain, the children thoroughly enjoyed being outside and learning how to make a fire. The children used a fire steel just as Stone Age people would have used flint stones to strike and create a fire. All children managed to start a fire and some became experts by the end of the session!

    Sun 04 Oct 2020
On Friday, Olympus became red, black and yellow for the day as we studied German. We were very fortunate to have two virtual visitors: Mrs Newsham’s son, who spoke to us about learning German and answered lots of questions; Mrs Newsham’s friend from Germany, who showed us round a German house and taught us some German. Lots of vocabulary was learnt and some of the class were able to hold a short conversation in a German by the end of the day.
