Welcome to Olympus Class. Year 5 is an exciting and important year as children continue to grow in confidence, independence and responsibility. It is a year full of exciting learning opportunities, new challenges and memorable experiences.

In Olympus Class, we work closely alongside Mont Blanc Class, our other Year 5 class, to provide a consistent and enriching learning experience. Through shared activities, curriculum projects and events, we foster a strong sense of community across Year 5.

Throughout the year, children will continue to develop their reading, writing and maths skills through a broad and engaging curriculum. Lessons encourage curiosity, creativity and critical thinking, with opportunities for discussion, investigation and collaborative learning.

Year 5 offers many exciting opportunities beyond the classroom. One of the highlights of the year is our residential visit to Hothersall Lodge, where children take part in a range of outdoor and adventurous activities. The trip helps to build confidence, teamwork, resilience and independence, while creating lasting memories with friends.

Olympus Class is taught by Miss McKinley, who is committed to helping every child achieve their full potential and develop a love of learning.

We aim to create a positive and supportive classroom environment where children feel valued, motivated and ready to succeed. Alongside academic achievement, we place great importance on developing responsibility, resilience and positive friendships.

We believe that a strong partnership between school and home is key to helping children thrive, and we value open communication with parents and carers throughout the year.

We look forward to sharing a fantastic year of learning, growth and achievement with all the children in Olympus Class.

A. PE is on Tuesday and Friday. Pupils should come to school wearing their PE kits on these days.

A. Olympus have a library slot on Friday and will visit the library once a fortnight. Children will need to have their library book in school on this day if they wish to change it.

A. All information, including a kit list, will be added to this page and also Showbie in the Spring Term.

A. Spellings will be taught via the Emile spelling programme. Children have access to the app in school and can access via the internet or app at home. Each week they will be set a spelling activity to be done at home.

It is recommended that children read for at least 20mins at least 5 times a week but every day would be amazing! Reads should be recorded on a bookmark which is brought into class every day.

For maths, we really recommend that children regularly use both Doodle and TTRS. The phrase – use it or lose it – really does apply when it comes to speedy recall of times tables.

There is also the Homework section of the website which included links to various websites for support and ideas. Click here to see this page.
