Every day counts
At Euxton Primrose Hill Primary School, we believe that regular attendance gives every child the best opportunity to learn, develop friendships and make the most of school life.
We understand that there can sometimes be circumstances that make regular attendance difficult. We work in partnership with families to understand and support any barriers to attendance and to help children attend school regularly.
Our attendance target is 96%, and we encourage every child to attend every day they can.
Parent Guides
We have created three simple guides to help families understand our approach to attendance and know what to do if their child is absent.
Supporting Good Attendance
We recognise that there are many reasons why a child may find attending school difficult.
If we have concerns about attendance, we will work with children and families to understand the reasons behind absence and identify appropriate support. This may include working with our Family Support Worker, Family Hub, Community Support Workers or other appropriate services.
Our approach is to identify and address barriers to attendance wherever possible.

Punctuality
Being in school on time helps children start the day positively and ensures they do not miss important learning.
Please make sure your child arrives in time for the start of the school day. Our school opening and registration times can be found on our Welcome page.
Where a child arrives after the register has closed, this may be recorded as an unauthorised absence in accordance with statutory attendance requirements.
Term-Time Leave
There is no automatic entitlement to take a child out of school during term time.
Parents and carers should request leave of absence in advance. Schools can only authorise leave during term time where the circumstances meet the legal requirements for an authorised absence.
At Primrose Hill, requests for leave during term time will be considered by the Headteacher in line with our Attendance Policy and the statutory attendance guidance.
Please make your request before making any travel arrangements.
Where leave is taken without authorisation, or where the national threshold for unauthorised absence is met, the school may request that Lancashire County Council considers a Penalty Notice.
Persistent Absence
We monitor attendance carefully and will contact families when attendance begins to cause concern.
A pupil is considered to be persistently absent when they miss 10% or more of their possible sessions.
Persistent absence can have a significant impact on a child's learning, progress, relationships and wider school experience.
Our first approach is to understand the reasons for absence and work with families to improve attendance and remove barriers wherever possible.
Where appropriate, we may involve other professionals or services to provide additional support.
When Attendance Becomes a Concern
If attendance does not improve, or where absence is unauthorised and support has not been successful or has not been engaged with, further action may be necessary.
This can include:
- meetings with parents and carers
- attendance support plans or contracts
- Early Help support
- involvement of appropriate external agencies
- advice from Lancashire County Council's School Attendance Support Team
- legal interventions, including Penalty Notices, where the relevant threshold is met.
The national threshold for considering a Penalty Notice is 10 sessions of unauthorised absence within a rolling 10-school-week period. Ten sessions is normally equivalent to five school days. The sessions do not have to be consecutive.
The statutory framework also allows schools and local authorities to use other legal interventions where appropriate.
