Health & Medical Needs
Supporting your child
We want every child at Euxton Primrose Hill Primary School to be able to take part fully in school life, including children who have medical conditions, allergies or other health needs.
If your child has a medical condition or allergy, please contact the school office as soon as possible so that we can work with you to understand your child's needs and put appropriate arrangements in place.
💊 Medication in School
What should I do if my child needs medication during the school day?
All medication must be brought personally to the school office by a parent or carer. Please do not send medication into school with your child or give it directly to their class teacher.
An Administration of Medication Form must be completed with the relevant information about your child's medication and medical needs.
How will my child receive their medication?
We will make every effort to ensure that your child receives their medication at the appropriate time. However, once arrangements are in place, it is your child's responsibility to come to the school office and request their medication.
What if my child's medication changes?
Please inform the school office of any changes to your child's medication, medical condition or medical advice and provide updated medication or information where necessary.

🫁 Asthma & Inhalers
What should I do if my child has asthma?
Please let the school office know if your child has asthma and requires an inhaler in school. We will discuss your child's individual needs and ensure that appropriate arrangements are in place.
Please ensure that your child's inhaler is clearly labelled with their name and kept up to date.
Where should my child's inhaler be kept?
Inhalers and other medication should be brought to the school office and should not be given directly to the class teacher.
🚨 Allergies & Anaphylaxis
What should I do if my child has an allergy?
Please inform the school office as soon as possible. We will ask you to provide up-to-date information about your child's allergy, including their triggers, symptoms, prescribed medication and emergency arrangements.
We will work with you and your child to put appropriate arrangements in place and will support children with allergies to participate fully in school life wherever reasonably possible.
Will my child be able to take part in trips and activities if they have an allergy?
Yes. Children with allergies will be supported to participate in visits, trips, residentials and extracurricular activities wherever reasonably possible. Allergy should not be a reason for unnecessary exclusion.
Can my child bring food into school?
Food brought into school by pupils, parents/carers or staff forms part of our allergy arrangements, including food brought in for celebrations and treats. Children are discouraged from sharing or trading food, drinks, utensils or containers.

🩹 First Aid
What happens if my child is injured or becomes unwell at school?
We have trained first aid staff in school who can provide appropriate first aid when a child is injured or becomes unwell during the school day.
If your child requires first aid, we will assess their needs and provide appropriate care. Parents/carers will be contacted where necessary, particularly if further medical attention is required.
What happens if my child has a bump or minor injury?
A member of staff will provide appropriate first aid and comfort. Where appropriate, you will be informed about the injury and any treatment given.
What happens if my child becomes unwell at school?
If your child becomes unwell and is unable to remain in school, we will contact you using the emergency contact details we hold. Please ensure that your contact details are kept up to date.

🏥 Individual Healthcare Plans
What is an Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP)?
Where a child requires specific support because of a medical condition or allergy, we may develop an Individual Healthcare Plan with the child, their parent/carer and, where appropriate, relevant healthcare professionals.
An IHP sets out the practical arrangements needed to support your child safely in school. This may include medication, supervision, activities, trips, emergency arrangements and reasonable adjustments.
❤️ Supporting your child's wellbeing
We recognise that having a medical condition or allergy can sometimes make children feel anxious or different. We will work with children and their families to provide reassurance and support and to ensure that pupils are included in school life wherever possible.
