  • Y1 and Y2 Buddhism Assembly

Fri 31 Jan 2020 Miss Pearson

What a wonderful assembly we had today when we had a visitor from the Buddhist group in Preston.   Lisa talked to us about love, kindness, compassion and patience.
She took us through a beautiful guided meditation giving the people we love a heart hug and receiving their love back. We all agreed we felt calm and that it would help us to be better friends in school. She told us to keep a kind heart , and try to be the best person that we could be.

She showed us a gorgeous singing bowl which could help us all meditate and stay calm. Something we could all have in our homes or classrooms.

Our visitor Lisa told us a story about Buddha Shakyamuni who wanted to try to get rid of the negative thoughts and feelings and he decided to change and focus on a fundamental wish to be happy . We all went away with a plan to be kind and compassionate and patient to everyone we meet.

  • Reception Beech and Oak

Thu 30 Jan 2020 Miss Blackwell

The children have enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year this week. We have read books, watched short clips and we have sung songs to help us understand how they prepare and celebrate for the New Year. They have loved using the instruments and taking turns to dress up and dance like a Chinese dragon.

Year 6 have been building on their digital art and learning how to create a 3D world, using a version of scratch to control their characters. Charles and Jem turned out to be very effective teachers! The aim is to be able to download their worlds into the VR headsets (those shown are experiencing the wonders of North American national parks!).

  • Y2 Elm - Science experiments

Fri 24 Jan 2020 Miss Pearson
We had a great time looking at materials that were absorbent.  We then moved onto looking in detail at cotton wool and seeing if it might return back to it’s original state. There was lots of water, lots of smiles and lots of fun predicting, but we soon discovered that once a cotton wool ball is wet it never can look like the original soft ball!
  • Y2 Elm - Art African Printing

Fri 24 Jan 2020 Miss Pearson
We have been looking at Adinkra patterns this term that are used for printing on Traditional African textiles. We spent time looking carefully at the patterns and decided to design our own. It was great to see how the children interpreted words that they felt were important to their family (words like LOVE , CARE, PEACE and HAPPINESS ) and used these to create their own family symbol.  We also used some animal patterns and tried wax resist techniques with paint which were really effective too.

  • Year 2 Maple R.E Judaism day

Fri 24 Jan 2020 Mrs Di Franco

We were very excited to meet our visitor, Amy Troner, who came to speak to us about Judaism today. She showed us lots of items that are used in Jewish worship and some  children even got the chance to demonstrate these at the front of the class.

The children learned a little bit of Hebrew and had a go at writing shema which means hear. It was very interesting comparing Judaism to lots of different faiths and seeing the similarities between them. We are looking forward to learning more about Judaism in our R.E lessons this term.

Elm class had a wonderful morning today when Amy Troner came to talk to us about her Jewish Faith. She showed us lots of items that are part of Jewish worship, and items that she would use to welcome the start of Shabbat.

The children read some Hebrew and even wrote shema in Hebrew which means hear. We made a scroll and we thought about the prayers in the Mezuzah which is fixed on every Jewish family home.

  • Year 3 Rivington Local Area Walk

Tue 21 Jan 2020 Miss Fowler
As part of our Geography learning, we planned and followed a route around Euxton to see how the land has been used in different ways. Armed with a map, the children led the route, deciding when to turn and when to stop at different points of interest. They did a super job and led us back to school in one piece - we even made friends with a squirrel!
