Reception- No pens Wednesday
Wed 25 Nov 2020We are used to having activities in that don’t need pens and the children had a super week using their critical and creative thinking skills. They enjoyed building a wall for Humpty Dumpty and investigating the best material to protect him from cracking. They also used their thinking skills to help 'Incy Wincy' spider get down the gutter and made some super traps for Little Miss Muffet's spider. No Pensday Wednesday in Rivington
Wed 25 Nov 2020What a brilliant time we had on no Pensday Wednesday! We experimented with creating arrays, made volcano vocabulary word art clouds, mixed our own colours to paint cave paintings and debated the pros and cons of tourism, all without writing a single word. It’s amazing what we can do when our pencil cases are locked in a cupboard! -
No Pens Day Wednesday in Pendle
Wed 25 Nov 2020Today Pendle Class enjoyed finding different ways to work without pens. They started with our English lesson where we have been looking at shape poems. They used the iPads to create amazing volcano images using a variety words linked to the subject. In maths we continued to practise our multiplication and division skills by creating different arrays. In the afternoon, the children used Scratch to program different instruments to make music and sounds and finished our Stone Age Cave paintings.
It’s amazing how much work we completed without using a pen! -
No Pens Day Wednesday in Elm Class !
Wed 25 Nov 2020We had lots of fun in Elm class today when we abandoned writing and practiced some art skills!
We started thinking about lots of words to describe our families , and we had an amazing list. It was a fabulous vocabulary discussion.
The children came up with.....
caring, strong, welcoming, thoughtful, artistic, scientific, warm, loving, kind-hearted, understanding, resilient , honest calm , respectful and so many more !
We looked at some Adrinka designs in African culture and discovered that the families would make their own cloth so that they reflected what type of person they were.
We designed our own Adrinka patterns on the computer , before cutting out in card, ready for our printing blocks later.
We wish we could have no pens day Wednesday every week !

No Pens Day Maple class
Wed 25 Nov 2020We have had a great day in Maple class today without our pens.
We have learnt how important it is to communicate well by speaking clearly and listening to others.
In our guided reading lesson, the children filmed each other using iPads to answer follow-up questions. The children enjoyed speaking on camera and explaining their understanding of the text they had read. After this, we played some games. The children had to create a story about how they came to school and tell it to their partner. The crazier, the better! Then their partner had to retell their story to the class correctly. We built on this skill by playing a barrier game with cubes. The children sat back to back with a partner and built a tower. Then they had to explain to their partner how to build exactly the same tower, using verbal instructions only. This is harder than it sounds.
Well done Maple class. -
No Pen Wednesday - Year 6 Everest
Wed 25 Nov 2020Year 6 have had a fabulous day celebrating no pens! We started the morning with Mrs Goodyear’s favourite picture book - The Day the Crayons Quit. After much laughter we decided to have a go at some tongue twisters - they really were quite difficult. Mrs Swinburn shared some images from her time in South Africa, particularly her visit to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.
Our main focus and inspiration for the day was the book ‘Young, Black and Gifted’ by Jamia Wilson. We spoke about racial inequality throughout time and key events in history before looking at the different people represented and celebrated across all sectors within the book. The children worked in groups to explore the life of ten influential figures before using our digital media skills to create some mixed media portraits. Finally they sequenced them to create a timeline of history from Rosa Parks leading to Kamala Harris. Well done Year 6 for an amazing day!
