  • Y2 Elm - washing hands is not as easy as you think ! - Science

Fri 28 Feb 2020 Miss Pearson

As part of our topic on Humans as animals we have been looking at ways to stay healthy, including this week thinking about hand washing.

We learned that you need to rub the soap into your hands for about 15 seconds, about the same amount of time it takes to sing Happy Birthday.

We also learned that we need to remember five parts of our hands to wash

    Palms

    Fingers (front, back )

    Thumbs

    Back of hands

    Finger nails.

    Wrists

    We really enjoyed practising !

Fri 28 Feb 2020 Miss Pearson

We have loved our Vehicles topic this week, especially as we got to design and make our vehicles after looking at the wheels and vehicles at the transport museum visit.

The children loved testing the vehicles, and making sure that the axels were attached correctly.

We all enjoyed our work with Prags this morning making a beautiful Hindu picture for our display.  The finished work will be displayed in the main school hall.

What a great privilege it was to work with Prags and listen to the different ways we can create images with seeds and lentils.

  • Y2 Elm Visit to Bury Transport Museum History

Fri 28 Feb 2020 Miss Pearson

On a wet and rainy Wednesday morning this week, we all set off on our Double Decker bus to Bury Transport Museum.  The journey there was very exciting because as we were heading to Haslingden the snow began to fall and all 29 children were so happy ! They were all a little disappointed we didn’t stop to play in it because we were on a tight schedule to arrive for a fantastic day at the museum.

We loved spending time with our Leaders Sarah and Keith who welcomed us to the museum .

We started by making model vehicles before the really exciting part .... going to look at the buses, coaches and steam tractors.  Keith really enjoyed showing us the buses , and he showed us a horse drawn tram from Manchester which was 140 years old.

We were so lucky to be able to sit on an old double decker bus that had been restored before finding a spot for our delicious lunch .

After lunch we got to explore the museum , including dressing up, investigating how a steam engine works and the museum even has a model railway which was kindly switched on by one of the museum staff.  Elm class were amazed by all the different engines on different tracks.

Thanks to our parent helpers Mrs Wray Mrs Eccles and Mrs Dow for volunteering their time.  We look forward to going again soon !

Beech and Oak had lots of fun learning about the Hindu festival ‘Holi’.They learnt that Hindus celebrate the arrival of spring after winter by throwing coloured powder paint. The children threw coloured rice to represent this and did some Indian dancing. It definitely spread a lot of happiness, love and laughter this afternoon.
  • Final Performance - Grenadier Guards

Thu 27 Feb 2020 Miss Pearson

Wow , wow ,wow !  No words can describe what an amazing time we had tonight playing in front of a packed hall at Parklands High School.  All our children were absolutely stunning and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play alongside the Grenadier Guards and the Parklands school band.

Mr Willsher from Parklands conducted us all through three pieces

Wallace and Gromit, I’m a Believer and Skyfall .

We all played brilliantly alongside each other and we really understood what it feels like to be part of a massed band ! The adrenaline was definitely flowing but we all kept it under control and enjoyed every single minute.

The crowd cheered and clapped so much we played an encore before watching the Guards play a concert for us.

Such an amazing experience , we think the memories will stay with us forever !
