  • Ash Class Lowry Visitor

    Tue 22 Feb 2022

Ash class had a fantastic morning learning all about the work of the famous artist L.S. Lowry. We were taught by visiting artist Michelle how to recreate and innovate some of Lowry’s famous pieces using pencils, fine line pens and watercolour paints. We learned and practised lots of techniques such as shading, smudging, colour matching and observational drawing.
We can’t wait to develop our skills further in the rest of the term.

  • Lowry visitor in Cedar class

    Tue 22 Feb 2022 Mrs.Hacking

Today we had a visit from an artist to teach us all about L S Lowry.
In preparation we looked at the matchstick figures that Lowry used to draw and we created these poses in PE and took photographs of each other. We then edited these into black and white as Lowry only used the colours - black, white, red, yellow and blue. We then used these photographs to draw our own matchstick figures to create a collage of Cedar class coming into school.
We then used oil pastels to draw our own seascape.
In the afternoon we used different techniques taught to us by the artist to draw terraced houses and the factories and we used watercolours to paint it.

  • Year 5 - exploring air resistance

    Mon 14 Feb 2022

Year 5 were set a challenge - how could they prove that the greater the surface area, the greater the air resistance. This led to a great deal of discussion and the realisation they couldn’t measure the air resistance but they could measure its effect - the amount of time the paper took to fall to the floor. They worked in groups to create a fair test and, safely, dropped from a height.
