  • Ash Class visit to Bring yer Wellies

    Tue 05 Jul 2022

Where do I begin about our amazing day at Bring yer Wellies school trip.

We started with the best welcome from the horses Ricky and Freddie.  Then we went inside the greenhouse where our amazing day began with having fun building sandcastles.  Next, we listened to Nigel talking about our wonderful world, Mother Nature and plants - how we look after them, what plants need and naming the parts of our plant linked to our science topic.  We then got to walk through, touch and smell different herbs before planting our own herbs; we planted spearmint and peppermint. The children listened beautifully to a Nigel and Melissa giving instructions and we got to learn what a dibber was.  After lunch our fun continued and we went pond dipping where Ash Class were amazing dippers; they found leeches, froglets, snails, blood worms, pea muscles, pond skaters and much more.  After this, we were taken on an adventure walking through the woods and came to a field with an amazing view over Ribble Valley.  Here we got to play team games and took advantage of the amazing view for a group class photo.

Finally, we finished our day building dens, having one last game and then waving goodbye to Melissa and Nigel as we set off back home.

Thank you to the parents that came and helped. Ash Class, as always you did us proud.  Your manners, listening and behaviour were amazing.  Well done!

  • Art Assembly

Tue 05 Jul 2022 Mrs Bullock

It was my turn to take assembly, and being as it was National Art Week I decided to use drawing as our theme. Every member of Key Stage2 brought their wipe boards and pens into the hall. We had a chat about what art meant to them, then I asked who considered them selves good at drawing. Less than a third of children raised their hands. We worked together on some drawing exercises, the children were impressed at what they created in just a few attempts. It was fantastic to see everyone’s hand up at the end of assembly when I asked again who can draw.

In Art this half term we are learning about the artist Anna Atkins and practising our printing techniques. So far we have explored Anna’s blue colour palette and used plants and flowers to inspire us with our creations. We can’t wait to recreate Anna’s mono prints with our sun reactive paper when the sun finally makes an appearance!
