  • Testing magnets in Pendle Class - Science

    Pendle Class enjoyed investigating the strength of different magnets in our Science lesson. They came up with the idea to measure how far away from a paper clip the magnet needed to be to attract it, putting their measuring skills to good use! 

  • All About Alaska- Podcasting in Year 6

    This week, children in K2 class became podcasters. Working with a partner, they researched Alaska to create a podcast made on garage band. Children learned all about controlling volume levels to ensure both speaking and backing music could be heard at the same time. All podcasts were fantastic- well done Year 6!

    We thoroughly enjoyed investigating friction in Rivington. We tested lots of different surfaces to see which stopped our car the soonest, meaning it had the most friction. Which surface do you think had the most or least friction? 🏎

  • Y5 Science - testing materials

    Olympus and Mont Blanc used different methods to test materials and decide on their properties including if permeable, magnetic, hard (the scientific definition!) and flexible. Lots of discussion ensued when they used a scale of measurement. Olympus even got to test the absorbency of different nappies! Mont Blanc will have their chance this week.

    We love Maths in Ash class!
     

    We use concrete resources daily to help us develop and explore our number sense. We are now very confident when counting, ordering and comparing numbers to 20 and some of us have even decided to experiment with numbers much, much greater! 

  • Year 3/4 Sportshall Athletics Heat

    Our Year 3 and 4 Sportshall Athletics team were absolutely raring to go in the first heat of the competition at Holy Cross. After some very close calls, lots of effort and remarkable teamwork, we came away with a cracking second place! We need to wait and see whether we’ve made it to the finals, but we are certainly hopeful after these brilliant performances. Well done, Team! 🥈

    We have been looking at stories by the author Oliver Jeffers. The children have loved exploring space and winter activities in the classroom. The children have enjoyed playing board games and making staircases to show one more with the cubes. We also learnt how to weave paper and with this skill made winter hats. 

  • Music - using glockenspiels in Y2 Elm

    We had a great, fun afternoon in our music lesson today. Our glockenspiel skills really improved as we were looking to sing and play along with our class song “Rainbows”. 
     

    Everyone is beginning to understand musical vocabulary as well and we had a great time looking at the score and singing along .

  • PE Chorley Sports Partnership in Elm Class Y2

    We had a wonderful morning today when Chorley Sports Partnership came in to look at how good we are with running, jumping and throwing.  We had a great time and can’t wait to see them all again. 
     

  • Chorley Music Centre visitor

    Key Stage 2 had a visitor today, Gemma came to talk to us all about Chorley Music Centre. It is based at Southland’s high school in Chorley. She invited us all to come and have a go at lots of different groups and classes; choir, drumming, ukulele, band. Contact
